Sweetheart directed by Hella Joof takes the audience through the merry-go-round that a young teenager goes through
when he/she wants to be popular among his/her friends, at the same time keep true to himself/her self .
This Swedish movie introduces to us Mylaine Hedreul as Lina aged fifteen who is literally invisible in her friend circle and wants to be one of the sought after. To make herself visible, she chooses to be friends with the great
looking ,happening and yet mean Thea and a so-so looking but really gutsy Carro. Lina just to follow the trend of Thea and Carro parties and settles down for a boyfriend who she really does not love and feels like a fish out of water just to glue into the hep group. Its only time that makes Lina understand what she really wants and she sheds off the shackles of shame to become what she actually is and show it out to the world.
The story takes you through the journey that every teenager undergoes- tose moments of confusion, want for popularity, the want to have boyfriends and the façade that every teen puts on just to attract others. It shows how hard it is to define your friends and also keep them where they should be without losing yourself. This teen character is wonderfully portrayed by Mylaine .Though the movie is dull and dragging ,it has a very genuine theme not so far touched by other directors. In short it covers the five to six years of the teenage cycle in 90 minutes.
