Halloween legend called the Great Pumpkin really does exist, but his story sounds suspiciously like Santa Claus. "Dear Great Pumpkin," Linus writes. "I am looking forward to your arrival on Halloween night..."
Charlie Brown thinks the Great Pumpkin is a fake. Snoopy laughs at him. And Lucy tries to bully Linus into not believing in him. Only Sally, Charlie Brown's little sister who has a crush on Linus, believes his story. Linus tells her that on Halloween night, the Great Pumpkin rises out of the pumpkin patch to deliver toys to children all over the world. Sally and Linus wait all night in the "sincerest" pumpkin patch they can find just to get a glimpse of the Great Pumpkin. Meanwhile Charlie Brown, Lucy, and the rest of the Peanuts gang go trick-or-treating. Poor Charlie Brown! First he walks around dressed as a ghost in a sheet with too many holes ("I had a little trouble with the scissors.") Then as they walk around the neighborhood, the other kids get candy and cookies and gum in their bags. All Charlie Brown gets are rocks! Snoopy, dressed as a World War I Flying Ace, steals the show in every scene he appears. Lucy, known as the "crabbiest big sister" on the planet, shows that she really cares about her "blockhead little brother" by collecting extra candy for him and even dragging him home from the pumpkin patch long after trick-or-treating is over. I have watched this
cartoon at Halloween since I was a kid and still love it! It's fun holiday entertainment. Run time: 25 minutes.
