Alex and Emma

Movie Review by: FilmJabber

Original Author: Rob Reiner
Luke Wilson and Kate Hudson, two actors that have found sporadic success over the last few years, flop in Alex and Emma,
an emotionally flat romance comedy that can only be described as boring.

Wilson is a desperate writer who needs to finish (and start) a novel in a month''s time, and so he hires a stenographer (Hudson) to help him do it. Can you guess their names? The movie jumps in between their blossoming romance (which mainly includes awkward conversations about one another and sideways glances) and the romances unfolding in his book, which are played out by the same two actors, plus Sophie Marceau (wow, after Braveheart, she really hasn''t done anything too worthwhile, has she?). None of the storylines are all that entertaining, even when Hudson is attempting to be funny by using a foreign accent.

To be fair, Alex and Emma is far from being a terrible movie; the dialogue isn''t terrible, the acting isn''t terrible, and there have been worse on screen couples. The trouble is that the dialogue isn''t good, the acting isn''t good, and there have been much better screen couples. Alex and Emma basically has nothing to offer to the genre of romantic comedies, even though the premise is good. Had the fictional storyline been more entertaining this movie would have been more tolerable, but alas - it is not.
