Boat Trip

Movie Review by: FilmJabber

Original Author: Mort Nathan
Cuba Gooding Jr. and Horatio Sanz star in Boat Trip, a movie that makes you want to go on a nice cruise away from
any televisions. It is really funny, only without the really funny part.

Gooding, who was once praised as becoming the next big actor (after his Oscar victory with Jerry Maguire and a few other strong performances), has resorted to yet another cheesy comedy (along with such films as the critically reviled Snow Dogs and the recent Fighting Temptations) that never had any chance of being good. He stars as a man who, having recently been dumped by his girlfriend, goes on a cruise with his best friend (Sanz) - the only problem is that the cruise turns out to be a gay cruise. Soon, the two are in touch with their feminine sides, especially when they pretend to be gay so Gooding can attract one of the few women on the boat (Roselyn Sanchez, who also starred in the God-awful Chasing Papi). The rest of the story is just fluff, except that ex-Bond Roger Moore stars as a gay man interested in Sanz.

The problem with Boat Trip is not that it tends to stereotype gays or try to lecture the audience on the acceptance of gays, or that the concept gets crazier and crazier as Gooding pretends to be gay or when the Swedish tanning team is brought aboard to Sanz''s pleasure, but that it is just not funny. It has two or three moments but that is it; the rest is just so incredibly stupid that it is hard to consider it as anything else but a waste of time.
