Jack Black and Kyle Gass star as JB and KG respectively in Tenacious D in The Pick of Destiny , a crazy comedy that could
be the greatest movie in the world. Okay, that''s not even remotely true, but the movie is about "the greatest band in the history of the world," so it seemed like the right thing to say.
Tenacious D in The Pick of Destiny is a comedy, musical, fictional biography and ultimate ego trip. Think Bill and Ted meets Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle meets South Park , and it begins to explain what Tenacious D is. The movie follows JB as he grows from a loser of a child to a loser of an adult, who finally finds his place in Santa Monica when he runs into KG. Separately, their musical talents are nothing extraordinary, but together, they are the self-proclaimed greatest band on earth. Despite this bold statement, they realize that winning the open mike contest won''t be easy, and so they set out to steal the Pick of Destiny, which is guaranteed to give them the power needed to dominate the music industry.
Black is unleashed in a way you''ve never seen him before. He might have been crazy in School of Rock , or utterly silly in Nacho Libre , but he explodes here, in an unrestrained and psychotic way. Black is off the wall, and that''s a good thing. He''s pathetically hilarious. As for Gass, he also does a great job and plays well off Mr. Black.
