Kung fu movies have never been overly popular in the United States for many reasons, such as bad storylines, cheesy characters,
are more than anything else, horrible dubbing. Steve Oedekerk writes, directs, and stars in
Kung Pow!: Enter the Fist, a movie that tries to make fun of all those bad foreign action movies, but in the process ends up having to make fun of itself.
The movie actually has a pretty interesting premise; Kung Pow! puts Oedekerk into a real 1970''s kung fu movie, so most of the actors that you see in the film were actually filmed thirty years ago. The movie tries to be funny by redubbing the film with its own script, which includes random things like a Taco Bell song and stuff like that. It''s not exactly intellectual, but its randomness is entertaining from time to time. For the most part, the computerized integration of Oedekerk and this old movie is fairly seamless, and during the credits, it actually shows how it was done. You just have to get to the credits first, and that''s the hard part.
Let me just say it. Kung Fu is one stupid movie. If you thought Scary Movie 2 was dumb, think twice. The script has the mentality of a horny third-grader, and some of the physical comedy is pretty idiotic as well (if anything turned you off in the previews, it was probably the fighting cow, which I must admit is the dumbest idea to hit theaters in a long time). The only thing you have to consider is that Kung Pow! is trying to be stupid, and it knows it is stupid. It makes fun of itself every chance it gets and literally basks in the fact that it is a bad movie. That in mind, you might enjoy it.
