Marriage From Hell

Movie Review by: diamondsparkles

Ashton Kutcher and Brittany Murphy are just utterly delightful in this romantic comedy! While both of them deliver great
performances, I think that Kutcher outshines his co-star by really depicting his talent as a comedian. I just loved him in this movie- he was so, so suited for this particular role! In addition, Just Married also has a slight brush of airiness to it, and even in the more serious scenes, there is that particular feel-good aspect which certainly keeps things light in the audience’s mind. The plot flew extremely well and it was kept fun and preppy at all times: This is certainly one movie which had me laughing nearly without stop, from the very start to the end.
The story is about an endearing, very-much-in-love couple. Even if Tom is just your average guy and Sarah is the daughter of an over-rich businessman, the two of them seem to be perfectly suited for each other. Everything was going perfectly fine between Sarah and Tom until the day they decide to get married. When they vacation out to the honeymoon of their dreams, this is where the real trouble begins. Tom and Sarah cannot bring themselves to agree on a single thing and what was supposed to be the perfect honeymoon is slowly turning out to be the marriage from hell…
It is quite apparent that the plot is quite simple and straight-to-the point. In fact, the film does not really linger around before diving straight into the plot. It focuses rather on their different backgrounds before delving straight into the honeymoons. What I personally liked about that was the fact that the producers used heavy doses of genuine humor in order to depict the differences that might arise from a couple who come of different backgrounds: There was there typical awkward moment at meeting the parents of the bride, as well as trying to fit in with a totally different family. It is true to say that these are real-life happenings but I was personally fed up in seeing the same heavy, depressing scenario all over again in other films. That is why I was quite simply overjoyed at witnessing such scenes in an extremely highly comical manner in Just Married.
The honeymoon was also extremely humoristic with a lot of laughs guaranteed! Once again, despite the seriousness of the situation, both the cast and the producers managed to keep a light and fun atmosphere all throughout. This was also enhanced by the way that the film did not focus merely on one actor: Both the perspectives of Tom and Sarah were depicted, enabling the audience to remain quite open minded during the fights and not solely blame one party. I think that the way that marriage was shown as being more than just a fairytale was quite amazing. There are in fact, very few films that I have scenes where the producers manage to pass morals off to the audience and make them laugh at the same time!
Like I mentioned above, Kutcher was more than amazing in his role. His facial expressions were exactly what the audience might expect of his character of Tom Leezak in the film. In addition, both Kutcher and Murphy did their best to enact some on-screen chemistry and I think that this largely contributed towards adding a romantic air to the film as a whole. In fact, had there not been any on-screen chemistry, I don’t think that there would have been any form of romantic thematic features in the movie because it seemed to be more focused on laughs rather than romance!
