Snake Eyes

Movie Review by: FilmJabber

Original Author: Brian De Palma
The trailer was revealing, but captivating. Nicolas Cage was coming off two awesome movies, Face/Off and Con-Air. Gary Sinise
had risen in popularity, both from Forrest Gump and Ransom. But in the end, the two most appealing things about Snake Eyes was that it was less than two hours long, and Blockbuster has dropped the price by a dollar. Not only did I save money, but I also saved time from this extremely disappointing movie.

It started off good. The first scene, which was a consecutive fifteen minutes of filming, introduced the characters, the set-up, the swtting, the assassination, and the conspirators. Though filmed differently than I expected, it was extremely captivating. Unfortunately, Snake Eyes went downhill from there. First, Nicolas Cage''s annoying and unappealing character was pulled into greater detail, and we are dragged through a series of repeats of the first scene from different people''s perspectives. The idea was neat, but it got boring, and the characters were equally dull.

Carla Gugino did a fairly good job, but the sex appeal the director was aiming for didn''t reach its full potential. She didn''t get as large of a role as I would have thought, and her character was rather minor in the scheme of things, or at least it should have been.
