"Show Me" is one of the rare independent films I see that do not hold Academy Award stature, but sometimes you just have
to risk it, and sometimes those risks pay off. A Canadian film starring Michelle Nolden, Katharine Isabelle and Kett Turton, "Show Me" is an entertaining little film about two troubled young people who kidnap a businesswoman but pay the penalty in the long run.
After stopping to hand two young vagrants money, Sarah (Nolden) realizes she made the mistake of her life when they get into her car and force her to drive them to her cabin, where they proceed to tie her up and keep her hostage without any real plan. The two young people are definitely troubled, as Jackson (Turton) appears to be an ex-felon and his sister Jenna (Isabelle) does not always seem to have all her eggs in one basket. Sarah realizes that to escape she will have to play their game, and she proceeds to play a battle of wits with them, using seduction and mind games to get them to turn on one another.
"Show Me," which is poorly-titled by the way, does not always hit the mark, but it does so more often than not. At times tense, at other times mildly erotic, "Show Me" successfully manages the kidnappers-turn-to-victims storyline, even if it isn''t always so black-and-white.
