I must admit much as I enjoy the success of the Oscars and Slumdog
Millionaire winning for we British I nevertheless
must point out that the BBC did say that this film ... Slumdog
Millionaire had one third Hindi i.e. a
foreign language in the dialogue. Therefore its not strictly speaking a film in English.
I well recall my days on the Examination London Board and we had to agree that unless the student wrote in English consistently and spoke totally in English it was not therefore acceptable to the Board. So I guess Slumdog Millionaire must come under genre: TEFL : i.e. English as a Foreign Language, or Foreign Film as its not got the qualifications needed for an English class! However, I gather Kate Winslett of Titanic Film fame won an Oscar for her part in Reader(s) and she had been nominated on countless occasions in the past .. so its Congratulations! to Slumdog Millionaire and Kate Winslett .. there is one rule for them and obviously one rule for us ... the examiners .. its an unfair world ... keep on writing..
