SWISSPORT Tanzania has recorded an impressive financial performance and reasonable growth in production, revenue and profitability.
According to the company’s latest report, it shows that the company handled 16,906 flights, 812,100 passengers and 23,937 tons of cargo, thereby realizing a total turnover of 16,725bn/- compared to 14,942 bn/- recorded in 2006.
The report added that for the year ended December 31, 2007, the company achieved a profit of 5,166bn/-, which is an increase of 2 per cent compared to that of 2006.
The report said the net profit for the year 2007; the company recorded 3, 577bn/- compared with the previous year of 2006 which was 3,495bn/- .
The report said the government has collected revenue from Swissport through ground and cargo handling of about 16,691bn/- in the year 2007.
The report said that the government collected revenue of 9,218b/- in ground handling and 3,453b/- in cargo handling at Julius Nyerere International Airport.
The report explained that at Kilimanjaro airport the government collected 3,004bn/- in ground handling and 1,016 in cargo handling and the grand total were 16,691bn/- in 2007.
The report said concession fees cost the company 1,097bn/- and telecommunication 305bn/-.
The report said Swissport would continue to invest in Ground Support Equipment (GSE) as a way of improving the reliability of its fleet.
According to the report, some 1,098bn/- was spent in 2007 for such purpose. The company is now looking forward for more investment this year, sources said.
