Mr. Walter Gallaztegui tells that he traveled on bicycle from the city of Paysandú - Uruguay - South America to Montreal
- Canada.
He crossed between roundtrip 93,000 kilometers, in an old bicycle without changes and with 80 kilograms of luggage, he was assaulted 8 times: 2 in Peru, 2 in Colombia, 2 in Ecuador, 1 in Costa Rica and 1 in México.
The countries that he journeyed were: Uruguay, Paraguay, Argentina, Brazil, Bolivia, Chile, Perú, Ecuador, Colombia, Venezuela, Panamá, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Honduras, El Salvador, Guatemala, Belize, México, The United States and Canadá.
He survived singing, selling poems and a very rich dessert that he did and does. As he did not take a carp, in some occasions people invited him to their homes, in others, he remained in cheap lodgings where not only he had to share the room with pigs, hens and other animals but he did not have bath either, the one that he had to invent in some place.
Other adventures that he relates were lived in Costa Rica, where he remained without brakes in the hill of the death; the bicycle every time it took more speed, but luckily, in a hill and after running over a lot of people, finished outdoors in a dance track where a birthday party took place.
In Bolivia he found flooded Lago Titicaca after it had snowed and rained. There the roads are of loose dirt, bridges do not exist and the rivers and streams have to be passed on foot. So as he did not wear suitable footwear, he had to paddle and push the bicycle on barefoot by the slough and the frozen water, because it was better than to take them within the shoes. The nose bled much to him due to the effort and the cold. And when he arrived that same day to Peru, the things didn’t change much: although on that side it was possible to wear shoes because there was asphalt road and it excelled of the flood, it was so much the dark and solitude because of the climate, that several times when on the edge of the highway after falling in the water, he had to count 5 steps to calculate the middle, raise the bicycle and continue the route completely without seeing. As he hit some cows, he found out of those animals by the mowing because the dark prevented him to see them.
Although he has many adventures more, he promises to be adding them little by little and he invites to see some photos of his trip in the outstanding bond.
Also he comments that beginning July 2006, he has planned to make another journey from Tijuana - Mexico to Vancouver - Canada.
