Shirley
Valentine (Pauline Collins) is a middle aged woman from Liverpool who is tired of her life, having done nothing with
it besides being a docile wife and mother to her demanding family. She decides to take a 2 week vacation to the Greek Islands without telling anyone. Her frank thoughts are voiced monologue style to the viewer and you find yourself rallying her efforts to get more adventure out of life. In Mykonos, her friend abandones her and she is left to peruse the beaches on her lonesome. She finds it irksome that the British couples around her feel a sense of duty and pity that she is by herself when she has never been
happier in her life. She begins a clandestine romance with a Greek waiter who adores her middle aged body, even going so far as to kiss her stretch marks (now ain't that lovely).
I've watched this film 3 times. It's great. I love her liverpuddlian accent.
