I Still Know What You Did Last Summer

Movie Review by: FilmJabber

Original Author: Danny Cannon
Since Scream came out, several horror movies have arrived, trying to top its excellence, or at least it''s box office
earnings. Within a year, Scream 2 and I Know What You Did Last Summer appeared (within a month of each other). Urban Legend came a while later. I Know What You Did Last Summer didn''t have the greatest of plots but it sufficed, providing lots of thrills and strong characters. It was only inevitable that a sequel would arrive, and that time has come. I Still Know What You Did Last Summer tries to top, or match, its predecessor, much like Scream 2 did Scream, but something went wrong.

I was quite excited when I heard about a sequel way back in May and highly anticipated the day when I would be able to go see it. Jennifer Love Hewitt is one of my favorite actresses, both on the big screen and in "Party of Five": She''s beautiful, sexy, and talented. There was nothing wrong with her in this movie, except that the director seemed to spend more care putting her in wet, unbuttoned clothing than the movie itself.

The things required for a successful sequel in the horror genre are more deaths, more intricate deaths, and at least some originality. I Still Know What You Did Last Summer fails in most of these, and then some. A lot more people are killed in this movie but every death is similar: Willis strikes them down with his hook, or some other sharp object. The most suspenseful moments are where Julie is searching rooms, knowing someone is lurking in the shadows, which, unfortunately, happens way too much. Every scene is repetitive: Julie is either looking for the killer or someone is getting gouged by a hook. It doesn''t get any better.
