When one goes to see a movie like
Can''t Hardly Wait, they expect a stupid flick with lots of booze and lots of sex.
There really won''t be anything to it except for guys trying to get girls'' shirts off. But while
Can''t Hardly Wait does have a lot of beer, and a lot of guys wanting to have sex, it is a surprising delight.
Can''t Hardly Wait is a funny and enjoyable film, and could even appeal to adults.
The intended focus of the movie is the relationship between Preston (Ethan Embry) and his distant crush, Amanda (Jennifer Love Hewitt). Preston isn''t unpopular but for the last four years, the prom queen has been dating the prom king, and she has hardly noticed Preston (she doesn''t even know what he looks like, even though he sat right next to her in a class). But surprisingly, their relationship is sided by a series of other character progressions and Hewitt and Embry are not the only main characters. There are several others who all get their time in the spotlight, creating a more varied mix than the usual romance comedy.
While every incident leaves to every other one, the best single achievement is that of William Lichter (Charlie Korsmo), the school nerd. Planning to publicly humiliate high school jock Mike Dexter (Peter Facinelli) with his two nerdy friends, he infiltrates the party only to get drunk and become the center of the party. Girls go crazy over him and he suddenly gets popular, for a night.
