I was reading about the so called dowry death of a young married lady who commited suicide a day after her first wedding anniversary she was married into a very rich business family who must be having all the modern comforts.
I write that she was married into a very rich business family because in India when you marry you marry the whole family it is just not you and your husband, the young bride has to adjust to the whims and fancies of the whole family, in these modern times the old value are giving way to the new ones The girl is brought up in her own family as an equal to her brother she is given the same pampering ,the same education with no expenses spared but after marriage the status changes she no longer is the pampered daughter but a new daughter in law who has to prove her worth before she is being accepted in her new family Most of the young girls do so .Few unfortunate girls are unable to face the trauma hence the suicide rate increases.
The dowry factor is there but the totally illogical demands as mentioned in the above news may be just the outcome of the pain due to the irreplacable loss of the daughter.I offer my sincere sympathy to the bereaved family but the boy's family has also lost a member of their family and they have to live with the stigma of being dowry demander for the rest of their lives
