British Council Turkey

Website Abstract by: SM THOMPSON

Many thanks again to the British Council in Istanbul for their informative and helpful newsletters and blogs over the last
few weeks.  I have taken some time to read it all as its in Turkish and I swear that I believed my Turkish wasnt up to it but with the aid of a dictionary and help from a phrase book plus a recent visit to Turkey's Culture City of Istanbul I put together some points that interested me.
Such as there are two players on the set and one is a woman in a karate outfit and a man in a suit and they each run up and down stairs all the time .. they appear to point at the white board and then almost meet in the middle but separate and start the whole process again.  I wondered if this dance is a metaphor for meeting ... and then the meeting is adjourned ... and they almost meet and then they go separate ways but each actor/dancer is whirling in the same space one actor frightened or shy of confronting the other ... the metaphor .... dont let the sun go down on a quarrel .... metaphorically that is as the earth is in crisis and so are the actors who will run out of time to meet and not meet almost as if they are invisibly in chains!  An exciting project I assure you.
The other blog consists of an Arts Insert concerning Workshops for Teachers of English and should anyone need a map or two the British Council in Turkey will provide it and the workshops are free so contact the British Council in Turkey.  I decided I would throw something into the ring ... and I wrote my Limerick poem as a kind of rubric as writers often get asked to spell  out the rules ...  I have ... great stuff on British Council websites from Turkey .... nice work!
