Since the existence of man on earth that people have been playing the role of an ‘evil genius.’ Cain deceived his beloved
brother, Abel, and killed him. Judas Iscariot, the bad egg among the twelve, a despicable treasurer betrayed his master and sold him for money. The Nazist Adolf Hitler and the communists attempted to capture the whole world and rule them as their subjects. And finally, today, we have the modern terrorists and the religious extremists. The similar story cannot be far-fetched from the
Easterners of Nigeria – the greatest black African nation of the world.
Approaching it from the education sector of Nigeria – it is a mess, especially the
university education. There are bad eggs who are really contaminating the good ones. For example, the nasty policy of the former Vice Chancellor of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, UNN, in respect to admission into the University through Post UME screening exam, had also polluted the mind of other university Vice Chancellors to callously introduce the same; the tragedy of which had caused ceaseless tears in the eyes of many young Nigerians seeking admission into university. As if that isn’t enough, to make life seemingly more unbearable for the average Nigerians, is the indiscriminate increment in the school fee from N3000 to N30, 000 per student by this ‘holy’ Vice Chancellor. And to cap it all, this tribalistic Vice Chancellor handed over to another ‘Idiami’, a tyrant from the same town, the same village and the same local government with him, just on whose day of handing over, some gun shots were heard, a sign of a welcome back of cultism into the campus. Not only that, in his four months tenure in office, he started demolishing commercial buildings, shops and complexes the masses are feeding on, thereby rendering many fellow Nigerians hopeless and jobless. As at 2007, UNILAG students pay N7000 as school fee, ABU pay N7500 and UNIPORT N8000 But the new Vice Chancellor of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka was said to be contemplating now increasing the acceptance fee from N6000 to N20, 000 and school fee from N30, 000 to N90, 000. What a bad example to other institutions to follow! Are Easterners bad eggs?
The fraudulent activities of the Easterners in the business sector are also not unnoticed. They exist as super fraudsters on the internet, the ‘Yahoo Boys’. Also, in the importation of contraband goods and fake drugs into the country, they’re not far wanted. Just about five years ago in this country, Mrs. Dora Akunyili, the then director of National Agency For Food And Drug Administration, NAFDAC, narrowly escaped death when she was attacked by these miscreants because she made an attempt stopping them from importing and selling fake drugs. These miscreants are Easterners.
Are Easterners bad eggs? They play dirty games in politics. Sullivan Chime, the executive governor of Enugu State, on the day of his swearing in was asked by the priest whether he could say sincerely if he actually won the election. He said ‘No’. He was asked again, why then was he becoming a governor. He said he was put there. The self-appraised governor, in his fifteen months seemed committed and conscientious to the so-called 4-Points Agenda. After which, he didn’t pay salary to sanitation, health workers and waste managers in the state for many months. Likewise, some teachers have not been paid since January this year. And yet he was appointed and not elected.
There are also crime exploits by the Easterners. Just this year, professional armed robbers, about forty in number, with sophisticated machine guns and flips of cars like Hummer Jeep, swept through Owerri, Nnewi and Nsukka robbing banks and killing innocent people. They burnt down the police station at Nsukka and killed the DPO. What a catastrophe to the nation. The Easterners are great in ritual killings and cannibalism. I will not forget the Clifford Orji of Lagos on the 80s who use to eat human flesh.
In religion, the Easterners are also bad examples. They perpetrate many evil in the name of church. In 2001, the founder (an Easterner) of a vibrant church in Lagos was convicted of financial crime and jailed in London prison. Emeka Ezeugo, popularly known as Reverend King, founder of Christian Praying Assembly who was found guilty of tormenting and killing some of his members, was an Easterner. Many immoral acts and atrocities were committed by the self-acclaimed Jesus Christ. Are Easterners of Nigeria bad eggs?
