The Government has filed a claim against the judge who investigates Skanska bribery.
The judge Javier López ‘s
days are numbered in the Skanska case, a case which investigates alleged bribes that the Swedish construction company might have paid to Kirchner’s party officials for the extension of the South and North gas pipelines.
Yesterday, the government filed a claim with the Council of Judges (Consejo de la Magistratura) for “subjugating” the powers assigned by the law to the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
The conflict between Aníbal Fernández y Biscayart arose because the
Judge decided to move Adrián López from a Federal Penitentiary Service prison to a Federal Police jail. The judge invoked security reasons and declared two resolutions by the Ministry unconstitutional since they restrict the possibility of the Police to receive convicts.
In a letter sent to Biscayart’s office, the Minister Fernández said to him that he was going to file a claim with the Council of Judges, which he did yesterday.
“The resolution adopted remains under your exclusive responsibility, and the circumstances described will be reported to the Council of Judges, since I consider that taking this measure constitutes subjugation to the powers which, in accordance with the law, are assigned to the Ministry of Internal Affairs,” warned Fernández to the judge.
