“Twenty-first Century – A World where Fear is encouraged by Politicians
In the Sydney Morning Herald today, there
is an article about Mamdouh Habib, the Australian man who has stated that he was captured, taken to Egypt by the Americans, tortured in Egypt, then, taken to Guantanamo Bay where he was held in detention for 3 years. According to Mr Habib, he was tortured again and again by the Americans. During this time, he was not charged with any offence. The article states that Mamdouh Habib has just won a libel case against an Australian newspaper that called him a “terrorist”.
Mamdouh Habib was going about his “own” business visiting his country of origin when he was arrested and had his life and that of his family changed forever because of “fear”. The fear of terrorism and terrorists, perpetuated by our “so called” Free democratic government politicians. Imitating US Policies and politicians.
During the first nine months of the 21st Century, the western world was a relatively happy place in which to live, work and play.
Alas, that was not to continue. The New York 9/11 catastrophe took place and from then on we have been “encouraged” to be fearful. Fearful of what – you might say? Well that is the question. The 9/11 hijackings were absolutely terrible and abominable actions perpetrated yes, by “terrorists”. However, the remainder of the western world has now (in turn) been hijacked by Government Politicians, following in the footsteps of George Bush and his colleagues, deciding what is right and good for all of us.
Thus, after 9/11 George Bush, the US President, began his quest to put all the rest of the world on alert. Thus began the Century of Fear created first by George Bush and then accentuated by politicians in all democratic countries.
The snowball affect of the policies that have now been put into place is astronomical. We are slowly and steadily losing our freedom. Making public statements against the government of the day and its policies is now beginning to not be tolerated. Our freedom to go about our business without quiet interruption from covert actions perpetrated by government legislation, presently being agreed to by our Politicians in Parliament is being eroded.
What are we doing about these limits to our freedom – nothing. The reason we are not taking any action is because we have not yet begun to realize what is happening.
Many people just like Mamdouh Habib have been arrested and detained with little or no firm evidence against them. This is being done because of fear.
The US Government are now going to need to find a “face-saving” way out their terrible misdemeanors in Guantanamo Bay.
The American people are afraid of everything and everyone. They all carry guns, and even though many do not agree with the present government policies, they are afraid to do anything for fear of reprisals.
In Australia during the last election, the Liberal Party used “fear” to become re-elected. The fear was that the Labor party would not be capable of running the country and that interest rates would go up if people voted for the Labor party. People believed this fear campaign and the Liberal Party were successfully re-elected.
During 2004-2005, the Commonwealth Government gave more powers to the Police to arrest people suspected of being terrorists. Some State Governments have also given extended powers to the Police. The legislation presently being presented to parliament is to give Security agencies power to tap telephones and emails of ordinary Australian people. What next?? What have the police been doing up to now? Haven’t they had the power to arrest people who disobey the law? It is all being changed because of fear.
Hopefully, in the future people will begin to love and trust each other again, using these very strong and powerful weapons against fear.
Fear is a negative emotion, and when it is used against us, it never manages to give us a positive outcome. Let us be mindful and alert to the messages that we are being given and the manipulation of Governments. We all have independent minds and all our thoughts belong to us. Let’s keep it that way. The Twenty First Century of No Fear.
