Man Charged With Sex With Daughter By TOSHEENA ROBINSON-BLAIR Two men spent their first weekend behind bars at Her Majesty’s
Prison following their arraignment last week in connection with alleged sexual abuse of two girls – a six and a nine-year-old. A 30-year-old Pinewood Gardens resident was charged on Thursday with
unlawful sexual
intercourse with his six-year-old daughter, and a 24-year-old man of Inagua Way in Bel Air Estates was charged with unlawful sexual intercourse with a nine-year-old girl. In the incest case it is alleged that sometime during the month of June, the man engaged in unlawful sexual intercourse with his daughter. The father was also charged with disorderly behaviour and resisting arrest by a sergeant in the Central Detective Unit on Tuesday. But according to the man’s attorney, Ian Cargill, his client voluntarily turned himself into the police after he received word that they were looking for him. Mr. Cargill said the two lesser charges stemmed from the first. He also alleged that his client was beaten by police while in custody. The attorney told Magistrate Carolita Bethel that he met with his client on Wednesday and at that time his face was not swollen; Mr. Cargill claimed his client’s face was swollen while he was in court on Thursday. The attorney told the court that his client first made his allegation of abuse before the officer who allegedly committed the act. The Pinewood Gardens man pleaded not guilty to the lesser charges of disorderly behaviour and resisting arrest. A trial into those charges was set for February 21, 2008 at 2pm. The father was denied bail on those lesser charges until after the court has dealt with the bail hearing in the incest matter. That hearing was set for October 23. The preliminary inquiry into the incest matter is set for mention on November 5, 2007. Also on Thursday, the 24-year-old Inagua Way resident was charged with unlawful sexual intercourse with a nine-year-old girl, which reportedly occurred just over a week ago. A bail hearing in this matter was also set for October 23. At that time the date of a preliminary inquiry into the matter is also expected to be set. Just over a week ago, a husband and wife were charged in one of two incest cases brought to a magistrate’s court. The man was charged with incest and his wife was charged with failure to report abuse of a minor.
