PAINTINGS
by Romanian artist Simona Carmen Panciu went on show last night in an
exhibition at Jim's Castle, Camelot Restaurant, Adliya.The artist, who hails
from Bacau, Romania, is displaying 42 original
works of art - mainly oil on wood of varying sizes and others created using the
"icon technique. Ms Panciu is an award-winning artist who has been
painting all her life."I remember growing up in Romania and my mother used
to beat my hands because I would draw everywhere, she told the GDN prior
to the opening of her second exhibition in Bahrain.Ms Panciu studied art in
Iasi, Romania, first - where she said her art teacher encouraged her to paint
using "anything I could find from the earth. My teacher, Mr Butnaru,
taught me that colours are all around and he encouraged me to look around and
use anything I could find - like tea or coffee to get burnt sienna tint, grass
or leaves to get green.. Ms Panciu has lived in Bahrain
for more than eight years and held her first private exhibition at her home in
Juffair, which she calls Casa Romana, last year.She has held several art shows
in Iasi since 1985.In Bahrain,
she took first place in the Women's Art Exhibition at the Bahrain National
Museum in 2000. She has
also featured in exhibitions organised by the Bahrain Contemporary Art Society,
of which she is a member. She is also a member of the World Art and Culture
Exchange Association..Ms Panciu is also a graphic
designer, fashion show
co-ordinator and designer, having held shows in Bacau
and Bahrain.
The art show is open to the general public from 6pm every night from tonight
until Saturday.
