Still Holding On
A ST MICHAEl FAMILY is holding out hope that the body found behind Pine Hill Dairy last Friday is not
that of 14-year-old Kalifa Downes who went missing two Saturdays ago.
The teenager, who
police said was sexually assaulted, died as a result of stab wounds to the chest, an autopsy revealed yesterday.
Father Darnley Alleyne
identified the clothing and keys found near the decomposing body as belonging to The Lodge School student.
The last sighting was on Saturday in the presence of a mature lady and she was wearing a low-cut top with her breasts a the door.
Someone asked the woman if this is how she let her young daughter dress and the woman cursed them.
The father said he did not know a woman who fitted the description, and he said police had questioned her. However police are awaiting more scientific information to identify the body positively.
Kallifa did not live with her mother at Mount Friendship, st. Michael, but with her dad Darnley Alleyne in Lower Burney St. Michael, for over a year.
He told the DAILY NATION he was at work when she went missing and she could have left home as early as 7 a.m. because when her brother Matthew Clarke woke up, she was already gone.
It comes as a shock to those who know knew her. She was very quiet and polite, he said, adding he was "trying to hold up" after having identified the remains.
