THE JUST
ENDED STRIKE ACTION IN CAMEROON. Due to the just ended strike
action in Cameroon last month,it was believe to be cause by Economic
factors,which were hard on the
citizens.Rather,the misery behind the
strike lies or comes from
political influence that was imposed on
Economic activities to influence changes on the Economic domain which
was felt by the citizens and not the high authorities,of the
country.The head of state was merely hiding behind Economic
activities.He uses his political powers to influence Economic
activities of the country of which the consequences were felt by the
citizens.This time around,the pain was felt by all the citizens because
such things never affected all the citizens except the
Anglo_phones(North West and South West).The just ended strike action in
Cameroon came only from Economic and political activities.
Economically,the strike action resulted from Economic activities of the
country influence by political ambitions which led to changes in the
country which was felt by the citizens.Since from the day that Cameroon
gain her independent living conditions in the country has gradually
being doing up due to an increase in the price of basic commodities of
which the citizens cannot afford for it.A good example is in the 80s
when 40 cups of garri was sold for 100cfa franc but present day has
brought a great change as only 2cups of garri is sold for 100cfa
franc.Also,prices of building materials are not also left out.A bundle
of zinc which was sold for 50thousand franc in the 80s is now sold for
400thousand franc,a bad of cement which was sold for 1800franc is now
sold for 6500franc causing the low income earning citizen to be unable
to build a house.The prices of other basic commodities which is needed
by all the citizens in the country daily was also increase causing the
common man on the street to go hungry on those goods.The transport
sector is not also left out as it plays a great rule in the strike
action as most of the strikers were drivers.The drivers also felt the
pinch of the increase of prices on basic commodities as prices of fuel
was also increased,causing them to be unable to fuel their tank after
working for a day. Politically,political activities played a
great rule in the just ended strike action in Cameroon.The head of
state uses this criterials as the main objective behind the Economic
recklessness of the country to impose his political influence which led
to a strike action in Cameroon.The ambition of the head of state to
change the constitution of the country to enable him rule for
life,caused the Cameroonians to strike in refuser to this political
ambition.The citizens of Cameroon were staying quite to the economic
changes of the country,but have to strike when the president of the
country H.E PAUL BIYA decided to change the constitution of the
country.Thus the ambition of the head of state to change the
constitution of the country was the immediate cause of the strike in
Cameroon.The strike action was advantageous and to an
extend,disadvantageous. The advantage aspect was that, 5%prices
of some basic commodities were reduced.Also, 15%salaries of civil
servant has been increased. The strike action brought about
destruction of governmental and non governmental assert in the
country.Also,it is said that prices of basic commodities has been
reduced,but the prices are still the same as it was before.Instead of
the head of state to solve the problem,he laid the blames on the
chairman of the opposition party JOHN FRU NDI,that he is the brain
behind the strike.After all this unrest in the country,the
head of state did not say anything that was expected from him.When he
was ask to address the nation concerning the strike action,he instead
threatened to us military powers to solve the problems.This caused FRU
NDI to say"PAUL BIYA speaks like some body who does not know his
people".He said this immediately after the speech of the
president.After Cameroon reached the H I P C(heavily indebted poor
countries initiative)of which all her debts were council ed, it was
believed that Cameroonians will have a good living
standard.Instead,living standard of Cameroonians has instead gone
worst. Due to all these economic crisis influenced by
political factors,Cameroonians are still wondering when they will ever
live a good life in their father''s land.
