Summary
Menace of Brain Drain
The developing countries are whirling in an assortment of intricate quagmires emanating from peril of brain drain that is perpetually depriving them of their brilliant people. Despotism has trampled meritocracy in these countries that has given birth to evils of favoritism and palm greasing. These blights have hollowed foundations of their state institutions resulting in their continuous decay. The deteriorated state institutions have badly failed to ladle out justice to the people that has shaken trust of publics in them. Such suffocating ambiance of gross injustice, loot and plunder breeds frustration and sense of deprivation in the hoi polloi especially in the deserving ones. Therefore, when capable persons do not get their genuine rights on merit they seek illegal means to obtain them by becoming part of the sleaze-spattered system. Some of the shining individuals hunt for jobs in overseas countries to materialize their basic needs and ambitious desires ensuing in persistent talent loss in the countries already skating on their uppers.
In majority of the developing countries bureaucrats, brass hats and politicians having feudal background are ruling the roost. They enjoy power and prestige while professionals are not given due status and salaries in these moribund societies. Such tottering societies harboring inept, dormant and power lust people at the helm of affairs promote cerebral drought by elbowing out the intellectuals down and out. Therefore, several gifted citizens holding professional degrees appear in the competitive examinations to change their line of work to get power and perks related jobs resulting in internal brain drain. These vocational divorces result in wastage of state resources spend on training of trainees of public-sector institutions.
A country deprived of competent people is like garden on a barren land glutted with mushrooming herbs and shrubs with scarce flowering and fruit trees. Talented people are the jewel of crown of a nation state because their presence is binding to resolve socio-economic and political menaces confronting their motherland. The talent-stressed fleeced countries have failed to develop self-reliance because they have not succeeded to bulwark brain drain. My subsequent verses reflect this grim state of dependency that has ensnared the developing countries because they have botched to properly exploit and develop the treasures of their human resource.
When beggars extend their bowl they don’t feel shy,
But the pleasures of independence they never enjoy;
They degrade themselves for a square meal,
Physically they live but morally they die;
True spirits of life are in self-reliance,
Because remedies in ourselves often do lie.
Glaring poverty and glittering richness are marks of underdeveloped and developed countries respectively. The well-lined countries entice the endowed people of the underdeveloped countries with warmth of currency notes. Each year hundreds of thousand dexterous persons having professional degrees appear in the specialized entry examinations of the urbanized countries to get employments so that they can receive blubbery salaries and enjoy due status. Therefore, several individuals who get opportunities to immigrate spare no effort to permanently settle abroad. This one way flow of intelligence has driven a wedge between the talent-frazzled developing and talent-filled developed countries. In the past industrialized countries made progress with gigantic strides by politically subjugating and economically exploiting the poor nations through prowling colonialism. Now they have conceived WTO to pillage their wealth in a sophisticated way. Brainpower is imperative for a nation state because geniuses can reinforce its political basis and economic foundations that can ward off foreign meddlers and robbers.
In order to check menace of brain drain the hard up countries should strengthen their state institutions through establishing genuine democracies at grassroots level that can build trust of their publics in them. They should generate well-paid and elevated social rank job opportunities to accommodate capable people to tap their expertise. Only strong organizations administered by honest persons can promote meritocracy to bring forward men of brain to resolve complicated national issues while crumbling establishments governed by deceitful men of brawn through nepotism and dishonesty only worsen the already grim situation in a society. Bolt upright persons should be appointed as head of the state institutions because candid persons can reform the whole organizations through trickle down effect and vice versa. Establishment of strong accountability institutions to check unbridled corruption is mandatory to provide room for bright people to flourish because a society collapses where corruption becomes socially acceptable.
