Learning about
Aboriginal Culture
In the Newspaper Tansi, dated July nineteen August to August 23, 2005, in the section of Arts, the article entitled “Spirit
Magazine Produces Historical Aboriginal Literature Issue” reveals an important
aspect of the
population and history of
Indigenous peoples of Canada. The article puts an emphasis on one particular aspect of Canadian civilization which is cultural heritage comprised of the way indigenous people create art, write and communicate. Some
artists highlighted are
writers and mentions writers who produce one aspect of literature - poetry. The magazine is promoting aboriginal artists in the fields of artwork, writing and cultural events. Provided is a list of all the Canadian artists and as the magazine progresses more Canadian artists are identified. The magazine gives the reader a chance to know the names of all the indigenous artists who perform in Canada and is thankful for the rich natural resources of Canada, which has inspired most artists to write. The magazine has an additional number called “Miracles” and some writers who appear in it are: Tomson Highway, Louise Halfe, Janet Marie Rogers, Gregory Scofield, Garry Gottfriedson, Brandon Mitchell, Chris Bose, Jennifer Storm for example. The magazine is like an anthology, which is useful for readers to know about the past, the present and future artists in Canada and in the world. What is most important is that the list of artists provided by the magazine is useful when learning about the indigenous population’s past while enjoying the nature and culture of Canada. Spirit Magazine defines the characteristics of indigenous populations, which is increasing statistically in numbers, as an educational means to learn about this population.
