The
new Star is much like the Globe and Mail, which appalled me when I first saw it. The Globe and Mail is a conservative
newspaper where the Toronto Star is a Liberal newspaper. Although I really don''t support either of these parties I like the Toronto Star much more because of it''s colourfulness and its writers. Now though, it has the same basic layout, colours, and formatting of the Globe and Mail making it harder to read it. They had a great product before and now they''ve ruined it with monotone colours and boxy formatting. They''ve made some improvents, I''ll tell you that. The font is bigger and more legible, they''ve made the paper longer, and the
section letter is now relevant to the actual section. For example, the Sports section is now ,S, whereas it
used to be anywhere from B-T depending on how big the newspaper is. But there are still drawbacks to this new Star as I''ve mentioned before. The weather and TV listings always used to be in GTA section at the very back so it was easy to find everyday. Now, it can be anywhere, down deep into the section, or out in the open, but its anyones guess as to where it is on a given day. The Saturday comics seem to be getting
worse every week. They have supported bad comics after they introduced in the previous Star. As well the Wheels section has gotten worse. They used to provide a panel on the left hand side with a glimpse of what was inside. This was useful because sometimes there would be nothing that interested me except the news in the auto industry. Now I have to flip through the whole 30-40 pages of the Wheels section to see if theres anything that interested me and its usually a waste of time.
Whenever the Toronto Star comes out with a new updated
look and format they gain, but they sacrifice even more in the different elements of their newspaper.
