Possibility of re-emerging SARS this spring in Guangdong area where the first case of SARS had been reported. The government is on high alert to prevent it by measures of strictly forbidding people to eat the
masked civets. Since the masked
civets are the carriers of SARS viruses, an inspection of severe ban on
eating the wild animal will be carried out from Feb. 11 to Feb. 16, mainly checking food serevices such as restaurants and meat products markets. The reward for disclosure of any cases of masked civet eating or sale has been raised to 1000 Yuan RMB.
