The Turks knew why they killed Armenians; Armenians were Christians. This shows us that religious liberty doesn't exist in Turkey. The Christian Armenians were a threat to Turkey being a
country based on Muslim
values and they knew what they wanted. Turkey is reluctant in admitting to the killings which I find terrible.
In France as in many other EU
countries the
people are against accepting Turkey in the EU and it is only the left wing disagreeing with this. Turkish values are very different from what we see prevalent in the West or in Eastern Europe. The EU is not considering the consequences for the people if Turkey were to be admitted. And if it does become a reality, the next countries trying to get accepted will be Syria, Lebanon, Morocco, Tunisia, Jordan and Yemen. EU must know its boundaries and it has to refuse Turkey. Personally I hold nothing against the Turks, I myself am an immigrant in Denmark, but it's a fact that the Turkish values correspond more with the Arabic and Persian values then they do with the European. 95% of the country is situated in the Middle East. Co-operation among Turkey and Europe is better than granting them membership.
We have to
consider the people's anxiety of a country like Turkey joining. The EU does not consider consequences. In France, Holland, Austria and Denmark most people are opposed to Turkey joining the EU maybe due to the fact that they fear this will cause an overflow of labour.
I really wish that the USA would give this decision further consideration, for it disappoints me that Bush is supporting the Turkish membership.
USA shares with many other western countries the values of Freedom, Democracy and Human rights.
I am positive the EU will expand but the question is how far do they want to go? What will EU gain from most of its new countries?
The Middle East needs freedom and democracy because this helps to create safety to the people living there and for the rest of world.
