Democracy Egyptian way
The three pillars of a democratic system are the legislative, the executer and the judicial system. Well, not in Egypt, with a legislative chamber that is accountable to the government not to the people that elect it. Since an MP considers him/herself a government employee. The only hope for the people is a fair, independent judicial system. This article dashes any faint hope in the Egyptian judicial system.
The Attorney General Mr Maher Abdelwahed refers two judges who’s jobs are the deputies of the High Court of Appeal to the ‘committee of validity’.
‘Both the Attorney General, and the committee are appointee by the government.’
This brings to memory the judges purge of the sixties, since the committee have the power in a way or another to terminate a judge’s carrier. Judges source considered that to be the utmost hostile challenge against judges who seek reforms. The decision caused uproar amongst the judges association and they are taking every possible measure to rebel it.
