Back on course and
reading Le Monde ... I was intrigued to discover on the front page
those famous cartoons of French Politics ... I suppose its Election time in France
and the cartoonist enjoys a bit of fun at the expense of the politicians. I do
hope, however, that the whole thing doesnt get out of hand ... do you remember
those Danish Cartoons .... and the fuss they caused to the Islamic World as
they were seen to humiliate Islam's Proohet Mohammed! I read the
webpages and was disturbed by the outcry even in London, which isnt
foo far away from where I am sitting at the moment.
However, back to Le Monde ... Opera is obviously a great delight in Paris
as it is in New York USA. The other evening I sat aside some time to
listen to La Boheme by Puccini "live recording" on BBC Radio 3 from
The Met New York USA ... it was a stunning performance and they
interviewed the cast, so I believe. When visiting France be sure to go
to the Opera!
The news of President Jacques Chirac is on the front
page and reads
like a diary ... he is now in his 70s and is a very charmingly presented
President of France. Given what we say about our Politicians, Chiraq
of France seems to have all that French charm off by heart ... I saw,
too, recently how President Chiraq greets fellow
politicians has
become a matter of great debate. With the US Politician
Condalezza Rice ... she is embraced warmly by President Chiraq
along with a number of notable lady politicians .... but when it comes
to the British lady ... Margaret Beckett ... Margaret is there by
President Chirac's side, arms by her side. How about that for coolness of approach.
Excellent reading in today's Le Monde .... excellent stuff!
