Destiny of thedestination of dangerous luggage

Today I read in The Hindu that the Egypt Government
has finally granted permission to the decommissioned Aircraft carrier to enter the Suez canal on the basis that the ship is exempted from the rule to transbound hazardous material as it comes under the category of warship. Apart from that. the Authorities of Egypt also confirmed that Egypt’s environment will not be affected because of the ship’s journey through canal. However it is still under doubt whether the ship would reach our Country as the court has to decide its fate of journey on 20th of this month. There are so many discrepancies in the weight of dangerous material in the ship. The Company which won tender to dismantle says that the weight of hazardous material is only about 45 tons whereas the company which did operation to decontaminate the hazardous material says that they removed more than 500 tons of the said material besides the Company which did the second time same operation before the ship’s departure from France says that still more large quantity of that dangerous material which has to be removed and it is totally against to the Basel convention. Because of this ship and its harmful luggage so many issues have come to light such as, how a country should function when it has to seek other nation’s co ordination before calling for tender for dismantling these sort of warships in future.
As I told you earlier, let us wait and see what happens to this ship either it turns back or our Country overcomes successfully from this issue once for all.
