across the world, according to an inter-heart survey conducted in South Asian countries, including India and China.Prof. Lionel Opie, a world renowned cardiologist says that this abdominal
obesity is the main cause for heart disorders.
Lack of daily exercise and the Indian diet which comprises of saturated fatty acids like coconut oil and palm oil promotes coronary heart ailments. Vegetables and
fruits have a pivotal role to play in developing immunity and combating diseases.
Prof. Opie said that WHF has plans to produce television programmes on health and hygiene. In fact he suggested that health and hygiene could be made part of the school curriculam so that children can lead a healthy life from a young age.

CARBOHYDRATES
Carbs. are very essential as they produce energy, vitamins and minerals. Lack of carbs will lead to muscular breakdown and dehydration. But let's know the difference betwee complex carbs and simple carbs.
COMPLEX CARBS: These are present in cereals, pasta, noodles, rice, potatoes, legume (brans, peas) vegetables, fruits.
SIMPLE CARBS: Absorption of these carbs is very quick and instantaneous-they are available in cakes, cookies, syrups. They increase the sugar level very quickly but soon make feel low. So one should judge by the degree of sweetness.
FATS
Too much of accumulated fat will lead to obesity. Let's become familiar with the two kinds of fat.
SATURATED FATS: These are most unhealthy fats found in animal fats, butter, red meat, cheese, cream, whole milk, chiken skin, certain vegetable oils. This fat is associated with high cholestrol, heart diseases, attacks, weight gain etc.
UNSATURATED FATS: They are the healthiest type of fats found in vegetable sources. They are found in olive oil, soya oil, wheat germ nuts (almonds and walnuts), seed(like sunflower seeds, pumpkin seed, flas seeds, sesame seed) tuna fish, salmon fish, sardines, mackeral fish.They benefit heart, metabolism, immune system, lowers cholestrol and are also used for structural and hormonal function.
Smart choices can be made between
Fruits and juice extracts
Bran flakes and frosted, sugar-coated flakes
Whole wheat bread and white bread
Whole wheat pasta and regular pasta
Brown rice and white rice
