Left and Iran first, and the US later; well said Dr. Singh Well said Dr. Singh, despite yet another ignorant, uncouth American diplomat. Even as the recent statement by the US Ambassador to India, David Mulford, has already raised enough hackles in India,
particularly from the Left parties, here is a waft. That is, as is only to be expected, from the Prime Minister of India, Dr. Manmohan Singh.
While speaking to newspersons after the swearing-in ceremony at the Rashtrapati Bhavan on Sunday, January 29, Dr. Singh said that India cannot be pressured into doing anything that
hurt the national interest. I may go a step further and add that anything that hurt the interest of India’s neighbours - in this context, Iran - as well.
While giving the US Ambassador, David Mulford, the
benefit of the
doubt for his recent statements on India's relationship with Iran, Dr. Singh said the Left's concerns in this regard would be adequately addressed. But, US Ambassadors and Mulfords are not the kind of species who should be given the benefit of doubt. They are a lethal combination of spies and liars about whom Asia and in particularly India should be abundantly cautious.
Dr. Singh, on relations with the Left, dwelt on the demands of a complex polity and changing dynamics and hoped that his ministry will
satisfy the Left allies.
Satisfy he should, or else, as
The Hindu editorial pointed out wait for the next general elections.
Between the Left and the US the Left has to be trusted utmost. Between Iran and the US India’s interests should weigh heavily with Iran.
So, Dr. Singh, be clear that you are first with the Left in India, and then with Iran, which should mean the same to persons like me.
