The Sunday Indian Weekly

Newspaper Review by: annamma

This refers to the cover story and editorial (The Sunday Indian September 2, 2007), according
to the editorial, we have sufficient resources to generate energy and do not need such a complicated pact at the present juncture. Not only that the US threat of canceling the pact if India goes for a nuclear testing is a big loophole in the 123 agreement. At the same time we cannot neglect the fact that by dismissing the deal, in many aspects we may be a looser and countries like Pakistan and China may be more benefited. The left’s statements like “the honeymoon is over” on the nuclear deal became a laughing stock to the nation. Its adamant attitude on many issues may bring peril to its on survival as well as the country’s.  Now, no political party is interested for a snap poll. Parties like BSP and others may take advantage of the present situation and ultimately the left will be left out miserably.  It seems our politicians (especially the opposition and some ruling allies) are not interested in the nation’s welfare; instead they are more worried about their parties, positions and power. What a sad thing it is!     Annamma P.V. Hyderabad
