the Sunday Indian Weekly / ‘Our Cross to carry’

Newspaper Review by: pvariel

OUR CROSS TO CARRY
Your report ‘Our Cross to carry’ in the Sunday Indian Weekly is a clear picture of creating tension
and turmoil among the peaceful tribals by the RSS/VHP activists’. The administration too is playing a communal card even in spite of the displeasure of the tribals.  It shows the tribals are happy with their present status.  The uneducated tribal’s statement, “I sold my land and got full payment.  How can I take it back?” shows their good sense and ethics, which lack in the educated so called administrators.  The missionaries are doing yeoman service to the downtrodden without any ulterior motives, it’s an undisputed fact.  The testimonies of Asa Ram Bhumia (once a drunkard) of Ramna village, in Anuppur district of MP is yet another proof of a real convert.  Real conversion takes place in the heart of an individual; nobody can force it on somebody. It makes marvelous changes in an individual’s life.  Asa Ram’s testimony is a good proof to this, the changes and happiness he enjoys, he shared it with others and he led many to that happiness.   An individual is saved from a wretched situation to a peaceful and joyful situation.  How this can be an assault on the cultural moorings of India?  Before putting a block to such humanitarian activities the local authorities should think twice the consequence of their actions.  Can the authorities take care of the tribals as the missionaries do? OUR CROSS TO CARRY

I fully agree with the thoughts written by pvariel. Yes, conversion takes place in the heart of an individual, not by any external forces. Asa Ram's life totally changed, his colleagues, relatives, society everything changes because of one individual’s change of heart. Raj Kumar
