Iran Test Fires
New High Speed Torpedo.
AP reported from Teheran on 2nd April that Iran had
announced its second major new missile- a high-speed
Torpedo capable of destroying large warships and
submarines. The new torpedo called “Hoot” or “Whale” has a
speed of 360 km per hour, which is three to four
times faster than a normal torpedo. This is as fast as the
world’s fastest underwater missile, the Russian
made “Shkval”.
Gen. Ali Fedavi, deputy head of the Revolutionary Guards”
Navy told that no warship could escape from this
missile because of its speed. Though it is not clear whether the
torpedo can carry nuclear warheads, it is established now
that it can hit the target, a ship on the surface of water
or a submarine underneath.
The new weapon would eventually strengthen the naval
capability of Iran in the gulf in turbulent times ahead.
