Apropos the write-up ‘Opinion’ ‘Mocking Voltaire, made interesting reading. As you said the Indian political parties utter
bankruptcy lead Taslima issue bad to worse. Adding to that the Indian press especially the print media poured oil into the existing fire. The writer too boosted her sales up under the current situation. As you said there is no doubt that freedom of express is no serious threat in India, then, why the so called intellectuals and writers are lining up behind this controversial writer is not understandable. In the name of freedom of expression in India now anybody can say or write anything about anybody on any issue and escape. Taslima’s attitude towards the religion is not acceptable under the freedom of speech. One cannot hurt the religious and social feelings through their word or deed. India is loaded with lot of other problems and crises, Do we need yet another crisis in the name of religion and politics. Now she withdraws the objectionable matter". Though a much belated decision she took in the wake of controversy. Truly, a welcome change. The writers have freedom of expression but they must utilize it that for the welfare of the people and for the nation. Instead if they go to tarnish others it will only create utter chaos. She must note the fact that in her future writings too she must be cautious. To hurt others feelings or belief is not a pleasant one from reputed writers. In view of her decision some Muslim organizations reactions too is a welcome change. Let the country be not in trouble. Now we have to wait and see what the politicians'' reactions to her new decision. Will the BJP change the track and put another step forward. Really Indian politics is sheer opportunism.
