In
Casino Royale, after a run at the Roulette tables, James Bond meets up with Felix Leiter who offers to buy Bond a drink.
At the bar, Bond orders dry martini, "shaken, not stirred". So what's so special about that? Don't we all know that that's how Bond likes his drink? But when
Casino Royale was first published in 1953, readers didn't quite know what to make of the British spy who had a way with women and guns and who liked his martini, shaken, not stirred. Casino Royale was Ian Fleming's first James Bond novel and introduced the world to the man about whom Raymond Chandler once said that he was "what every man would like to be and what every woman would like to have between her sheets". Casino Royale introduces all those trademark characteristics that would later become synonymous with 007. His love for alluring women, his prefrence for dry martini and his winning hand at the casino. Casino Royale is where it all began. The book, as we all know, is now being made into a movie, the third time that it is being adapted for the
screen. The first time it was made into a television series. The second time it was turned into a farcical satire on spy stories with a fantastic line up of stars. In the 1967 version of Casino Royale, David Niven played an aging Sir James Bond, a spy from the old school (whatever that means!) who is called back to service by the death of "M". He alone can prevent the world from coming to a catastrophic end. Villains of all shades try to prevent him from succeeding. Along the way nubile agents are thrown at him, hoping to distract him from his mission.. But he remains above it all. To confuse the enemy, the British Intelligence name all its agents James Bond 007, including Woody Allen who plays Little Jimmy Bond! The film starred Orson Welles, Peter Sellers and Deborah Kerr, along with David Niven and Woody Allen. The current movie from EON productions is the 21st James Bond movie. The story in a nutshell is this: James Bond needs to stop a casino owner who uses his winnings to fund terrorism. Through this movie, the Bond franchise will attempt to reboot the entire series by ignoring his previous 20 big-screen adventures and introducing the character as if he were a brand-new creation.
