AHIMSA AND LEADERSHIP
Many persons work in various activities in
business organizations, where each one has his own specific role and responsibility. An article in Business World magazine of Feb 04, 08 discusses the role of the
LEADER in regulating the things in the organization for its growth. The individuals follow the path and role set by the top leadership in the organization. There are three types of spirits in an organization e.g. fulfilling a great vision, expressing core competence and doing
quality work for profits, and cashing on the opportunities. Normally one spirit plays an important and key role, with the other two giving support. The true leader follows a vision along with strategy and ethical practices, with support of the subordinates, but taking opportunities after a proper intellectual examination of the situations. He considers loyalty, friendship and business sense also. Every person must obtain adequate
knowledge, his conduct must be good and he must do his
duty. The ancient Indian scriptures state that Ahimsa (non-violence) is the highest law. We must not only not cause physical injury, but also must not cause any thing, which makes the good qualities deteriorate. Greed is likely to cause injury to stakeholders. It will make the management misuse and overwork the
people. Inability to care for the people, accepting injustices, supporting unethical practices etc. make the leader deteriorate in his qualities. If unfair practices are allowed or reinforced, moral
character is deteriorated. Also wise counsel is one half of leadership. Prosperity will come when knowledge guides in executing the things. Hence Ahimsa must be practised, so that the deterioration in the good qualities can be checked and restored.
