Kannapan, the AIADMK candidate, has filed a petition in the Madras
High Court challenging the election of P. Chidambaram
due to malpractice in counting. He lost the election to Chidambaram by a slender margin that is less than 3500 votes. As per the official record, he got 330,994 votes against Chidambram’s 334,348 votes. The third position candidate Barwatha Papa polled 60,084 voles.
The
petition contained that 1400 votes polled in his favour in Alangudi district were added to Chidambaram. He demanded for a recounting of the votes in that constituency. He also alleged that the counting officials adapted malpractices on the final counting day on May 16.
IANS tried to cntact Kannapan for comments on the subject, but in vain. However, Chidambaram’s osn Karti P. Chidambaram dismissed the allegation by saying that it is normal for defeated people to file cases against the winner.
