Rabbit’s
Thyroid Gland Tissue Transplanted to Woman.
Dated, Minsk the 29th April 2006.
A rabbit’s thyroid gland tissue was transplanted to a human
patient by Belarus surgeons. This brings new hope to those
patients who have lost their thyroid glands. The level of
hormones in the blood of the 39-year-old woman patient who
underwent the transplantation was normal.
Professor Stanislav Tretyak, a senior medical authority at
the Belarusian State University said the
technology developed was the culmination of four years of research.
This is the first time in the world that this technology
has been put into practice on human beings.
