UK Asians fear for safety.
Asian shopkeepers both Hindus and Muslims have expressed
fears for their safety after
recent firebomb
attacks on
their establishments in south London. The attacks left one
dead and critically
injured another. Police thinks that the
attacks are based on race rather than religious beliefs
because both Hindus and Muslims from several countries bore
the brunt.
Khizar Hayat from Pakistan Occupied Kashmir was killed in
the resulting blaze and his Afghan colleague was seriously
injured. Witnesses described the arsonist as a black person
in his thirties. He was broad shouldered, stocky, 5 ft 8 in
with shaven head and barrel chest.
Dick Heselden, Detective Superintendent, warned of another
attack by the suspected culprit. He further said that since
no other motive could be attributed racially motivated
attack was the most likely option. For some reason or other
the arsonist was targeting small Asian businesses.
