border fencing

government is worried over substandard
construction of barbed wire fencing along the Indo-Bangla border and urged immediate intervention of the Central government.

minister for public works department, said that state government has already drawn
Centre’s attention to the problem and awaiting their response.
Three MP’s from the state also met the Union Home minister Shivraj Patil and said that already the fencing has been damaged in several areas and if steps are not being taken immediately the very purpose of fencing will be defeated.
More then 50 per cent of the state’s 856
km border has been fenced and the work is going on for the rest. However, work for construction of fencing in 120 km border in the difficult terrains and insurgency infested Raishyabari area is yet to begin. The minister stressed the need for construction of fencing along this stretch as the insurgents use it for there trans-border movements.
Talking about compensation for the people suffered loss due to construction of fencing he said the state government has already submitted Rs 94 crore projects that is yet to be cleared by the centre. A survey reveled nearly seven thousand families have been affected due to construction of fencing.
