By T Siamchinthang
Tiruchirappalli: The National Cadet Corps would soon introduce a special package to attract students in Jammu and Kashmir and the seven north-eastern states and wean them away from the extremist groups.

Under the special package, the Central government would bear all the expenses for camps organised in the North Eastern states and Jammu and Kashmir, Director General of NCC Lt. Gen N.C. Bhandari said here today.

NCC also plans to increase its women cadet strength from the present 18 to 20 per Cent to 33 per cent before 2010.

The strength of the women cadets was expected to increase to 50 per cent by 2015.

A new directorate would be established at Uttranchal. The annual budget of the NCC was Rs. 402 crores which included states' contribution of Rs. 269 crores, he said.

He said NCC had good relationship with several corporate houses. It had helped the Reliance to recruit security personnel for their company from among the NCC cadets. The Sahara group was giving Rs one crore every year as scholarships to the NCC students.
