Tripura Govt demands direct Agartala-Dhaka Bus survice
Tripura Government has demanded introduction
of a
direct bus
service between Agartala-Kolkata via Dhaka to avoid unnecessary hassle of changing buses.
In a letter to the Union Minister for Road Transport, TR Balu on Tuesday, Tripura Transport Minister Manik Dey posed a proposal to the Ministry for introducing a direct bus service between Agartala-Kolkata via Dhaka to be operated jointly by Bangladesh Road Transport Corporation (BRTC) and Tripura Road Transport Corporation (TRTC).
The issue was discussed in operators’ level meeting of both BRTC and TRTC on March 10 last. The officials of the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) and Minister of Transport and Highways and Bangladeshi envoy attended the meeting, he said adding that there was a consensus in the meeting on introduction of direct bus service.
Following the decision, the State Government has requested the Ministry to obtain clearance of the Bangladesh Government for trial run and tentative time table for the trial run has been sent to the Ministry.
Transport Minister in his letter urged the Union Minister for obtaining necessary clearance of the Central Government as well as Bangladesh Government for the proposed trial run immediately to facilitate introduction of the direct bus service, which will be of immense of benefit to the people of the landlocked State.
