A LAND WHERE THE POOR ARE OBESE
The making of a diabetes epidemic are all there, unless we do something about it now

A land where the poor are obese is United States of America. Every third American is overweight. High calorie-low nutrition food and lack of exercise are the main reasons. The practice of food stamps or vouchers that the poor people get from US government is of low cash value forcing them to go only to fast food outlets where they get high calorie-low nutrition food.
An average British eats less and exerts his body more making him healthier. He walks, bicycles and exercises more than the average American, and drinks less cola drinks. French are healthier with their food and the wine they drink. The Mediterranean diet is considered to be the healthiest in the world.
The coming epidemic in India might be diabetes. The number of people affected by Type II diabetes is alarmingly on the rise. Why so? The answer is again more high calorie-low nutrition meals and lack of exercise. The mall culture and the proliferation of pizzerias, burger joints and fast food joints in Indian towns are reasons for the making of the diabetes epidemic. With the spread of ‘globalisation’, mall culture and a significant increase in the middle class population in India, taste for ‘fast food' and cola drinks among its children has also grown.
