THE U.S SOLIDERS
TRAINING IN INDIAN JUNGLES.
The current improvement of ties between India and the U.S at various
levels can also be seen in one of the most tactical areas, the armed forces. Indian
soliders have been battling insurgents and terrorists for decades across the volatile states of India. It is now believed that the Indian soliders and officers are one of the best equipped and trained forces in the world to counter
insurgency and terrorists in a tight situation which involves tricky terrains and densely populated villages and towns.
A contigent of the 25th infantry division and Guam national guards are undergoing training in the jungles of Mizoram. This training is conducted by the counter insurgency and jungle warfare school in Mizoram. The contigent arrived in the jungles from Afghanistan and is slated to go to Iraq after their training here. As the U.S soliders are now facing the challenge from insurgents and rebels across the state of Iraq.
Indian soliders over the years have learned to not only neutralize various terrorist outfits and their leaders, but also to limit the collateral damages that results out of counter insurgency operations. They have to win the hearts and minds of the civilian populations and also take the media into confidence. Besides which they have learned to handle and outwit sucide bombers, human bombs and human shields.
The U.S army has bases across the globe, spread across peacefull and volatile nations. The U.S soliders are highly trained for conventional wars across nations. But the Indian army on the other hand faces terrorists who employ guerrilla tactics and use civilian population and installations as baits and cover to fight against them. Over the years the Indian soliders have adapted to counter these threats and challenges of the terrorists in various trying situations.
It's for this reason that the U.S soliders are undergoing counter insurgency training in India to reduce collateral damages besides incorporating the new doctrines they are learning in the Indian jungles in their anti-terror operations, with full respect and regards for the Indian soldiers and officers who they now consider as highly motivated and well trained as themselves.
