Actor Arjun Rampal has adopted 12 kids affiliated to NGO, Project Rayons. Rampal’s involvement began when Project Rayons
aproached him. “I thought they were genuine people, and I must say, they have not let me down. There is tremendous accountability in their work,” says Rampal, who has two daughters, Mahika and Maira.
Do something Did the actor consult wife Meher Jessia before taking the step? Rampal says the decision was independent.
“What really made me do this was that Project Rayons gives shelter to mainly girl children from the streets. I hear so many stories about female street kids being exploited and sexually assaulted, and I get terribly disturbed; it’s time we all did our bit to provide them shelter and care. Sexual harassment, especially at young age, is something that cannot be erased.”
Transparent functioning “Such NGOs should be encouraged. There are NGOs who do not deliver what they promise, but I will vouch for the efficiency and transparency of Project Rayons. Frankly, it’s not difficult to do something like this if you have genuinely
decided to change someone’s life for the better. I even motivate some of my friends to join in,” he says.
Long-term plan
“I don’t get to see the kids often if I am shooting. But their report cards tell me they’re progressing in the
right direction. Project Rayons even tell me why a certain kid is not doing well, academically.
They give them clothes, teach them the right values…. At times, it is difficult to sustain the campaign when these kids need higher education. Hence, I have decided that I will be associated with this forever. My next step is to get them involved with computers,” winds up the actor.
