Moscow and Tehran remained committed to build
nuclear power plant in Bushehr, Iranian parliamentary speaker Gholam Ali Haddad
Adel said here today after talks with his Russian counterpart Sergei Mironov.
''We confirmed our intention to complete construction of the Bushehr
nuclear power plant in the near future,'' RIA Novosti news agency quoted Mr Adel as saying.
The 800 million dollar Bushehr nuclear power plant being constructed with the Russian assistance has come under the international microscope for alleged Iranian nuclear ambitions.
Iran has declared that it only wanted to develop nuclear power for civilian use, but the United States accused Tehran of running a secret nuclear weapons programme.
Recently, controversial comments about Israel made by Iranian President Mahmud Ahmadinejad further fuelled tension. His call for Israel to be ''wiped from the map'' or moved to Europe provoked widespread condemnation by several world leaders, and increased calls for the Iranian ''nuclear file'' to be transferred to the UN Security Council.
The Iranian speaker also said he discussed Russia's continuing cooperation with Iran.
''Iran would use its influence and promote the interaction process between Russia and the Islamic world both in Russia itself and abroad,'' he noted.
